I could’ve sworn that someone had made a wall with this exact scan with an abstract light burst in the bg, but when I went to look for it I couldn’t find it, so I’m not sure now if I just imagined the whole thing. Anyways, Gids was super excited over the “Old School” theme for Clash, and I realized that I started walling right around the time when swirly abstract walls were starting to go out of fashion – so I’ve never actually made a “real” old school wall before. So when she was like “Do it!” I was like “OK!” I was at a bit of a loss at first, but I googled up this abstract lighting tutorial and followed half of it before adding in other popular old school techniques like render clouds, radial blur, stock blending and so forth.

The original scan was actually really grainy, so I smudged the crap out of it before slapping on a light screentone pattern + bokeh stock over the entire wall. Yeah, I know I could’ve vectored the boys, but then it wouldn’t be a real “old school” wall The text is obviously another old school touch, but I’ve zipped up a textless version of this wall – which looks much better for 1600 and 1280 res, I think.
