This is my 100th wallpaper on Pixel Ellipsis! The site also turned 5 on August 5th (yes, I am now the proud owner of a toddler-aged website), so I wanted to do something really special for this wall. CLAMP was one of my favorite mangaka growing up and their works really pushed me over the edge of otakudom, plus my online walling persona has always been Mokona Modoki. So I thought it’d be appropriate to pay tribute to CLAMP by squeezing in as many of their iconic mascots into one wall as possible

I ended up using half a dozen scans for this wall, but Kero, Spinel Sun, and most of the presents were vectored-extended from this scan; Ioryogi from this scan; Usagi from this scan; Chii (atashi) from this scan; black Mokona from this scan; and white Mokona from this scan. Ioryogi’s chocolate treat outlines were vectored from this scan, and white Mokona’s yellow-striped present box was vectored from this scan. I also used the white Mokona scan and this Wish scan for color referencing; a pattern by masterjinn for the wall, and wood texture from Mayang for the floor. Lastly this Kobato. scan was really the inspiration point for this wall, even though I didn’t actually use it in the end

I am such a Tsubasa fangirl. But then again, I’m also a huge CLAMP fangirl so it’s no wonder really

Basically wanted to try juxtaposing and transitioning warm and cool colors, so I started messing around with color overlays over this scan. The result worked out surprisingly well… it’s really amazing how different colors can totally change the mood and tone of an image I also motion blurred the rocks to add more dynamic movement to the wall, and that’s it. Occasionally I come across scans that are practically perfect as is, and this is definitely one of those kinds of images for me… as is so much of CLAMP’s work urgh!

/ entry for MT K.O. Round 3. I added a dark version pack for people who don’t like the white background, but to be honest most of the non-white colors I had tried out for the background looked pretty crappy

Mokona, sun, and lily vectored from this scan, then tinted; ripple-waves vectored from this scan. Also, got part of the frame and general inspiration off this lovely Mucha scan (from Dansmuseet), then topped it all off with paper and stone textures from Mayang and Stock.XCHNG, as well as a smoke texture from Resurgere.

Inspired by Tama’s Art Nouveau walls, Kalico’s beautiful Wolf’s Rain wall, and of course Alphonse Mucha – the man himself, this is for the Inspiration LOVES Project @ Simple-ism.

I <3 Anya. This is the most kickass wall that I’ve worked on in a long time, and it couldn’t have happened without our collabing efforts, so I’m damn proud of the end result!

Sakura outlines vectored from this scan, and when we got stuck for the background I did what I usually do when stuck – nick it off another scan. This one, in this case. 100% mouse work <3

This whole wall started because of the collab contest at ILD, which gave me a great excuse to pester Anya to collab with me. It’s kind of dead, but I’m still really grateful for the opportunity to work with (and get to know) a lovely waller like Anya. Also wanted to submit this as 11. Memory, for the 100 Themes Project @ Instant Noodles.

Anya says: So this is the first of two collabs that Flyindreams and I are doing together. Everything in the wall was done by hand, with a few textures overlayed lightly for effect. We started out by brainstorming and then Flyin did the outlines for Sakura. Then we switched off and I colored her. Tossed it back to Flyin for the bg sand, wing statue, and clouds (kudos to her for the wings and desert idea!!) and then I finished off the blending and some painting. It’s pretty different than what we started out with, but I think the result is beautiful and really fits Sakura’s pose.

Made back in April 2005, and remains one of my most popular walls still. I honestly am still somewhat shocked at how much attention this one recieved as it was simply just a reworking of my previous dissonance wall. Anyways, the wall was made back then I tihnk in anticipation of NIN’s new album With Teeth. Had I known what I was waiting for, maybe this wall would have never been….

Rushing since I’m going out soon >_< I’ve wanted to make a Mokona wall for a looong time now, for pretty obvious reasons. But they somehow defy my various walling attempts… I think this is the third go D: I wanted to give the outline-less vector thing a try >__< and ended up keeping things simple, but this still took a long time u.u;;

Oh yeah, and this is also my (last, hopefully) remake of my first wall ever >_<

…I hate this wall. It was tedious, it was filled with details, the colors were screwed up, I’ve never gone about a vector so stupidly (if you see the illustrator file you’ll see what I mean), and above all it’s a really normal (a.k.a. boring) wall. Gah!

I definitely would’ve happily let the half-finished WIP sank into the deep depths of my HD except for some reason that I still cannot fathom most people who saw the WIP didn’t agree with me. >_> Too many people to list, but um… yah, you guys drove me. Hope you guys like this wall. Or you better like it rather, it took so freaking long. And it annoyed the hell out of me. T_T The vectors sucked, and the shading sucked even more >_> Gradient tool, polygonal lasso, pen tool, soft brush, hard brush, eraser… you name it, I used it *dies*

Vectored from this scan and this scan; the Tsubasa logo stolen from this scan. Don’t bother trying to read the text ’cause it’s obviously not meant to be read, but it’s the translated lyrics from Maaya Sakamoto’s “Loop”… definitely one of my favorite songs (out of many) on the Tsubasa OST <3

Dedicating this to two boys, Fuku <3 Not the wall I meant to make you, but it looked like you actually liked this one T_T And it’ll hold you over until I make the wall that I have planned, which will take a really long time T_T And also for nageni-kun, ’cause if you hadn’t kept asking, I would’ve just let this wall die… T_T

Also apologies to tates and crap for being extra whiny this past day T_T And actually if you’ve read this description to here apologies to you as well, but this wall was just… pure ebilness… ebilness and pain…

My second wallpaper~ another Tsubasa one. Think it’s a scan? Heh. Look again! This wall took me ages… I worked on it fairly steadily for about a week (maybe more) and then just picked it up and worked on it all night because I couldn’t sleep. It’s not EXACTLY done but it’s 90% done, and my brain and eyes are more or less dead after stupidly staying up, so suggestions or comments on this wall would be nice.

I’m going to explain in great detail how I made this wallpaper because it’s a synthesis of three different scans, LOADS of extraction and lots of re-coloring T_T I’m very proud of it, heh, so here goes:

The main scan of Sakura and Syaoran I got from chuayw2000 After I extracted what I wanted you can imagine my dilemma. I mean look at all the text all over this thing. At this point I kind of wanted to cry and die. But before then, I decided to work on the background.

The cherry blossoms in the background I got from atzur. Again, loads of extraction, cropping, moving blossoms to strategically cover Syaoran’s hand… recoloring to wipe out Syaoran / Sakura in the middle… etc. etc. It actually wasn’t too bad as I remember.

Then I went back to the original Syaoran and Sakura scan and wanted to cry some more, but then I had the brilliant idea to find a PRISTINE Syaoran’s cloak and drape it over him! It took some trial and error, but I found a good cloak for him from Aerith0530. After some flipping, manipulating, and coloring in additional wrinkles so that the cloak folds the right way, voila! I managed to cover up most of the offending text.

So tonight I finally sat down, brushed in Sakura’s veil and recolored over all of the text. Sakura’s metal corset-thing proved to be the biggest challenge… I used a lot of imagination, detailed brushwork (with a 1 pixel-sized brush zoomed in at 1600% most of the time @x@), and in the end got mad and erased about a centimeter of metal plate that I had created earlier but didn’t do so well on the lighting. I then tried applying the “dream effect” tutorial that I saw in a site… didn’t work as well, so I started playing with different layer overlap effects. After almost 3.5 hours of work… almost done… but just had to keep going back and fixing little things like a bump on Sakura’s back, putting in the shadow for a missing arm… and TA-DA~

Sorry for the long description, but I’m writing this to remind myself… no wallpaper again for a long time… until I can learn moderation… but hope you all will enjoy.

P.S. The title’s inspired by one of Tsubasa’s main theme songs’ lyrics… and I was stylistically inspired by Tysoh’s beautiful wall.

Updates:
6/26/05: Slight modification to Syaoran’s cloak collar and background…
6/30/05: Added in a shadow crease to Sakura’s hand, straightened some of Sakura’s lines, cleaned a bit of blue out of her hair that I missed before… Tried smudging Syaoran’s cloak, which looked ok, but then I decided to stick with the original “rugged” look.
10/30/05: In the spirit of taking other people’s advice… I finally caved in and smudged Syaoran’s cloak so that quality-wise it looks consistent with the rest of the scan now. I also went over some of the worst jaggies with the eraser + smudge tool, and smudged some of the background flowers just a teensy bit.
11/1/05: Realized that the lines in the cloak were still really… mortifyingly bad… and went over most of the lines again with the smudge tool + pen tool, since I’m now in love with the smudge tool. LOADS better… and I imagine that this will be the final edit of this wallie *kicks it*
6/6/06: Made and updated 1600×1200 version.

Now that my earlier wallies are SLIGHTLY less embarrasingly bad, I can start making a new wallie with a clear conscience! Kekeke… *^.~*
